Second topological moment of two closed polymers.
Ignazio Lazzizzera
Abstract
The exact calculation of the second topological moment of two
closed polymers is done by a field theoretical technique. Namely
Chern-Simons fields are used to describe the linking number m in
an action where a quartic interaction among "matter" fields
accounts for the steric repulsion (the so called "excluded volume
effect") between the chain elements of the polymers. Effects of
self-entanglement are ignored. The result allows an estimation
of the mean square average of the linking number of a given
polymer in solution with others.
