Deconfinement of Spinons as a Quantum Critical fenomenon

Abstract
We propose that spinons, spin-1/2 excitations carrying fractionalized quantum numbers, are deconfined at a quantum critical point between a band insulator and a quantum antiferromagnet. As a consequence, the finite-frequency susceptibility should exhibit distinctive excitonic structure similar to meson resonances.
